ADV 2.0 Desk
ADV 2.0 Desk
ADV desk is recycled custom fabricated furniture. ADV 2.0 is a double desk for two architects. The seam at the center clearly demarcates “his” from “hers.” The desk tapers at its ends to reduce its presence in a small room and to maintain unobstructed views through a window. It is thicker at the center to maximize desk space. The chevron design lets the two designers work next to each other without looking over one another’s shoulders. Below the desk surface, built-in shelving stores a small library, a desktop cpu and various techno-gadgetry. All horizontal surfaces are custom CNC-milled from 3/4” sheets of sustainable material made from waste sunflower seed husks. The surface of the desk looks like burled wood, and it smells like Cheerios. The material was sourced and fabricated within one mile from the final installation. The desk’s structure is 1” ips pipe and Speedrail pipe fittings. Sixty percent of the steel in ADV 2.0 is reclaimed from ADV 1.0. Additional steel was sourced and cut to size within two miles from the installation site and transported by bicycle. ADV is designed to be modular and recyclable. ADV 2.0 was designed while sitting at ADV 1.0.
